Wint Myat Thu

I am an Assistant Professor of Economics at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, specializing in energy, environmental, and natural resource economics.

My research interests lie in the political economy of energy production, with a focus on how institutions shape resource extraction and the infrastructure through which extraction occurs. Specifically, I study how markets, legal systems, and regulatory regimes mediate energy production decisions, the governance of environmental impacts, and the distribution of environmental risks across communities.

I received a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Arizona in 2024, and a B.A. from Sewanee: University of the South in 2019. I was born and raised in Myanmar.
